A violent protest in the Yauri local government area of Kebbi State has led to the tragic death of a businessman, who was struck by a stray bullet allegedly fired by marine police near the Yauri River.
The incident was confirmed by Malam Umar Bako Yelwa, a local source who told Vanguard that the protest turned violent when demonstrators blocked the federal highway, causing a significant disruption to traffic entering Yauri town.
As marine police attempted to disperse the protesters, they reportedly fired bullets, one of which tragically hit and killed the plastic seller in his shop. The identity of the deceased businessman is yet to be confirmed, adding to the rising tension in Yauri local government.
Despite the turmoil in Yauri, the situation in the state capital, Birnin Kebbi, remains calm following earlier protracted protests in parts of the town.
