Hugo Broos, the head coach of South Africa, stated that his team is eager to play Nigeria in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) semi-finals in Côte d’Ivoire.
Based on the nation’s recent AFCON success, Broos remarked that reaching the semi-finals provided motivation for them during a pre-match briefing on Tuesday.
“We are very happy and motivated that we will play tomorrow in the semi-finals of the AFCON.
Although it came as a surprise to many, we succeeded in making South Africa a formidable squad on the continent.
Also, South Africa participated in the semifinals more than 20 years ago.
“We are highly motivated because, above all, we participated in the championship game,” he remarked.
Despite acknowledging Nigeria’s superiority, the Belgian strategist had faith in his team for the pivotal match.
“Tomorrow, we take on a formidable team ranked sixth, which holds great significance for our players.”
“In previous meetings, Nigeria has had the upper hand over South Africa, but we are not concerned about the situation.
“Many people believe that Nigeria would win, but in football, that isn’t always the case.
“South Africa will play in the final for the first time in 20 years, and we are confident and motivated to try and ensure we get to final he said.
