Promoter Eddie Hearn has announced that Anthony Joshua will take against the victor of Tyson Fury vs. Oleksandr Usyk to try to become the undisputed heavyweight title.
Hearn said, “I expect the December fight winner to fight Anthony Joshua if he wins in September,” in an interview with The Sun. There are currently three or four opponents to choose from; no selection has been made. However, it is the official plan.
Daniel Dubois is anticipated to face Anthony Joshua at Wembley Stadium in September. Joshua last competed in March, when he decisively defeated Francis Ngannou in Saudi Arabia. Dubois defeated Filip Hrgovic to win the IBF “interim” title recently.
“Regaining the world heavyweight title is the first objective, and it has undoubtedly always been the goal. Therefore, I believe it will take two battles for us to be unquestioned. However, we must defeat them,” Hearn continued.
Usyk, who last month defeated Fury by split decision, became the first boxer to unify the heavyweight title since Lennox Lewis in 1999. After defeating Fury, the Ukrainian won the WBC title and added it to his collection of WBA (Super), WBO, IBF, and IBO crowns.
Promoters Frank Warren and Daniel Dubois are in talks to fight for the IBF “interim” belt, according to a Dailymail story. Warren said, “Daniel Dubois proved all his doubters wrong.” We are working on getting him to face AJ in the fall. Hopefully. He performed admirably. They are two British, therefore we would really like for it to take place in the UK. We think a fight at Wembley would be fantastic.
In an attempt to become the undisputed heavyweight champion, Joshua would face either Fury or Usyk if he defeats Dubois. This might lead to a potential trilogy between the Gypsy King and the Ukrainian.
