Paul Pogba, a former midfield player for Manchester United, is allegedly in advanced talks to sign with Marseille in January following the reduction of his four-year punishment to eighteen months.
After coming to an agreement to end his Juventus contract, the French midfielder is about to become a free agent.
According to Daily Express, Pogba has been in discussion with the Ligue 1 side for several weeks now. A deal appears imminent as Pogba awaits the green light to resume training early in the New Year.
The paper writes: “Paul Pogba could be set for a reunion with his former Manchester United team-mate Mason Greenwood, with the French midfielder reportedly in advanced talks to join Marseille.
The Court of Arbitration for Sport lowered the 31-year-old’s temporary ban from four years of football activity to just 18 months after he tested positive for dehydroepiandrosterone. The Juventus player can now play the sport again in March.
But Pogba’s tenure with the Serie A powerhouses is reportedly coming to an end. Due to the ban, he has missed the last 14 months of play, and according to a number of rumours, it is improbable that he will play for Juventus under the new manager, Thiago Motta.
Additionally, Pogba is allegedly already in deep talks with Marseille in anticipation of agreeing to end his Juventus contract. This information comes from the Ivorian site NCI. He can begin training in January, and it’s likely that he’ll sign a winter transfer window contract with a new team.
Pogba’s career has been mired by scandal following the doping scandal that led to a four-year ban handed down in February.
The initial four-year suspension was reduced to just 18 months after the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) found that Pogba hadn’t intentionally ingested the banned substance DHEA.
Although Pogba won’t be eligible to compete until March 2025, he is expected to leave Juventus soon and could finalize his switch to Marseille in January.
