The Bayelsa West Youth Congress has called on the members of the Peoples Democratic Party and Bayelsans to ignore a purported protest by a group of paid protesters in Yenagoa on the issue of then Bayelsa West Senatorial election.
The Coordinator of the group, Comrade Ebide Brown, said that those involved in the protest are renegade members of the PDP and some paid urchins from the APC to cause public nuisance in the name of protest.
Ebide Brown commended the State leadership of the PDP for the cold shoulder given to the street urchins masquerading as PDP members.
He said that it is indeed absurd that the protesters are a group of idle youths outside Bayelsa West Senatorial District mostly from the nearby Ahoada paid
to create a non existent impression of disenchantment in the area.
He said that after observing the charade, it has become necessary to react to the orchestrated blackmail against former Governor Henry Seriake Dickson who represents the District in the senate.
He pointed out only a bunch of selfish politicians who have no interest of the area at heart will oppose the vibrant representation by Senator Dickson who has only spent a year and six months in the Senate.
He said that the PDP led by the State Governor was in order to support the former Governor in his bid to return to the National Assembly after spending only a year and five months.
“It has come to the attention of the Bayelsa West Youth Congress that a group of political urchins paid by some unpopular politicians are embarking on a protest designed to prevent Senator Henry Seriake Dickson from contesting.
“As indigenes of the area, we find it odd that people from outside our Senatorial zone are being ferried from Rivers State and others to create a false aura around the former Governor.
“That the former Governor has done well in the short period he has spent in the Senate is no longer news. It is therefore expected that his aspiration to continue after two years is supported by all people of good conscience as shown by the PDP led by Governor Diri.
“We believe that any politician that is truly popular with the people will readily test his popularity with the electorates.
“It is the antics of unpopular, mischievous politicians to assume the non existent power to disenfranchise a qualified Nigerian citizen under a purported zoning arrangement which has never been respected.
“We therefore call on Bayelsans to ignore those paid agents involved in the mischievous attempt to discredit the former Governor’s bid for a return to the National Assembly,” he said
