After breaking the Guinness World Record for the longest cooking session, Ebenezer Smith, a.k.a. Millennium Chef Smith, a chef from Ghana, was taken into custody at the La Police Station.
Smith gave his supporters a certificate at a press conference on Tuesday, certifying that he was the new world record holder for the 820-hour, 25-minute cook-a-thon, which began on February 1 and ended on March 6, 2024.
At the end of his cook-a-thon, a star-studded event including Praye Tietia, Yaw Tog, Amerado, Kofi Jamar, and the Asakaa Boys among other musicians took place.
“This is the day that I will always remember,” the chef remarked at the briefing, which took place at the La Palm Royal Beach Hotel in Accra. As the holder of the Guinness World Record, I am deeply humbled and honored to be here before you today.
The Ghanaian chef had earlier posted on social media, saying, “We are pleased to notify the public and media about Millennium Chef Smith’s press conference.
The Guinness World Record results for the longest cooking marathon by an individual will be revealed by him. At 2:00 pm on Tuesday, July 2, 2024, the event will be held at the La Palm Royal Beach Hotel. I sincerely appreciate your cooperation.
“No, this is not true at all,” GWR PR Executive Alina Polianskaya told the BBC, confirming the nullity of his certificate. The GWR title is not his, and that is not our certification.
“Alan Fisher (Ireland) achieved the longest cooking marathon (individual) in Matsue, Shimane, Japan, from September 28 to October 3, 2023, clocking in at 119 hours, 57 minutes, and 16 seconds,” he continued.
The cops took him into custody shortly after he flaunted his credentials and declared his phony record.
Smith was detained by a sponsor who claimed to be the owner of the Amadia Shopping Mall (name withheld), who gave the course roughly 350,000 cedis. Smith had received funding from several of his sponsors to try a cook-a-thon, which he did not properly file in for GWR.
Attempts to reach out to the Los Angeles Police for a statement were unsuccessful. The mail address indicated on their website did not receive any deliveries, and their phone number was inaccessible.
The record for the most hours spent cooking is held by Irish chef Alan Fisher, who recorded 119 hours and 57 minutes.
His accomplishment surpasses the previous record held by Hilda Baci of Nigeria by 24 hours.
