• Ooni, Emir of Kano call for peace
Reprieve has come the way of 220 victims of the recent crisis in Ile-Ife, Osun State, as the Dangote Foundation yesterday donated a sum of N50 million to them to cover part of the losses suffered during the mayhem.
The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, and the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, witnessed the distribution of cheques to the victims at the palace of the Ooni yesterday.
Speaking at the occasion, the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Dangote Foundation, Mrs. Zuera Yusuff, said the foundation decided to donate the fund in order to reduce the pain of the victims and give them the leverage to continue to live their normal lives after the unfortunate incident.
Yusuff, who represented the chairman of the Dangote Group at the event, recalled that the foundation has been active and intervening in similar crises across the country.
She explained that the presence of the two prominent royal fathers would provide necessary royal blessing and further help to cement cordial relationship among all the ethnic groups living the ancient city of Ile-Ife.
In his speech, the Emir of Kano said the north did not make any public statement concerning the crisis because the Ooni briefed them on steps he and others were taking to resolve the crisis, adding that they have no reason to doubt Ooni’s sincerity.
He said the Hausas living in Ife have become indigenes of the town and urged all ethnic groups to be tolerant of one another and to continue to live together in peace.
