The Federal Government has commenced the payment of N44,000 in minimum wage arrears to former members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).

This payment follows the government’s earlier promise linked to the recent increase in corps members’ monthly allowance from N33,000 to N77,000. The arrears apply to those who completed their service before the new allowance came into effect earlier this year.

Although the new rate officially took effect in March 2025, it applies retroactively to corps members who completed their service.

Brigadier General Olakunle Akinyemi Nafiu, the NYSC Director-General, confirmed that the government is committed to settling all outstanding arrears. He assured that once funds are released, payments would be made directly to the bank accounts of eligible ex-corps members, whose details are already on file

Several former corps members have confirmed receipt of the payment on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), expressing gratitude and relief.
