Overnight, two Kogi State Polytechnic Lokoja students perished from fumes they inhaled from a generator that was kept near their apartment window.
This was verified in a statement by SP William Ovye Aya, the state police public relations officer.
Aya revealed that the deceased were 20-year-old Bilikisu Eleojo and Ibrahim Haliru.
He explained that the victims slept off and died before daybreak.
Early on Thursday morning, neighbors found their lifeless bodies in the room.
Three Kogi State Polytechnic students were present in the room, according to Aya. Three people: Mercy Ojochegbe, Ibrahim Haliru, and one 20-year-old Bilikisu Tijani Eleojo.
“A generator situated near their apartment window was turned on while they slept in their bed.
“The generating set was turned on, so they all dozed out and breathed in carbon monoxide.
“Ibrahim Haliru and Bilikisu Tijani Eleojo were already dead when neighbors found out about the tragic event early in the morning, while Mercy Ojochegbe, who was still breathing, was taken right away to the hospital.”
“The incident was reported at the ‘B’ Division of the Nigeria Police Force Lokoja and investigation is ongoing.”
