Two persons have been reportedly k!lled by gunmen suspected to be herdsmen along major roads in Gwer West Local Government Area of Benue State.

Eyewitnesses said one of the victims was m8rdered on Wednesday, April 9, 2025 at Atukpu village, located about one kilometre from Naka town, the council’s headquarters, along the Taraku-Naka Road.

The second victim was k!lled the same day on the Naka-Adoka Road.

Residents, speaking to Daily Trust via telephone on Thursday, expressed concern that all three major roads leading to Naka have become increasingly dangerous due to persistent attacks by bandits.

Chairman of Gwer West LGA, Victor Ormin, confirmed the k!llings and lamented the deteriorating security situation in the area.

“A young man was attacked and k!lled while returning from getting materials to roof his house along Taraku-Naka Road. Another person was similarly k!lled on the Adoka-Naka Road on the same day. These attacks have become daily occurrences,” Ormin said.

“The Makurdi-Naka Road is already unsafe, and now the other roads are no longer secure. Naka itself is under threat-these incidents are happening within five kilometres of the town.”

Ormin expressed concern that the security operatives on the ground may be overwhelmed, despite the efforts by Governor Hyacinth Alia to curb the wave of violence.
