The Governor of Lagos state Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu described the late Tuesday explosion in the capital city of Oyo state, Ibadan as “Disheartening and unfortunate.”
He sent love, comfort, and serenity to all the citizens, especially the victims,
“at this sorrowful time” in his speech which was sent out by Lagos state Chief of Staff Mr. Gboyega Akosile on Wednesday in a press briefing.
Sanwo-Olu expressed his condolences to the Oyo State government, and counter-part,
Engineer Seyi Makinde, for the explosion in Ibadan that resulted in 77 injuries and the deaths of two people.
He also expressed his sincere condolences to the victims’ immediate families, the state’s populace, and Ibadan locals for the explosion that was allegedly set off by illegal miners who had hidden explosives in a home in the Bodija neighbourhood of Ibadan.
Additionally, Makinde received praise from Sanwo-Olu for the timely deployment of first
responders and all pertinent state agencies.
In particular, he emphasised the deployment of security, ambulances, earthmoving equipment, and emergency lights for thorough search and rescue efforts at the explosion site.
According to him: “I am deeply saddened by the news of the Ibadan explosion that led to the destruction of many properties in the vicinity with records of two fatalities and 77 people injured on Tuesday night at Bodija in Ibadan, Oyo State.
“It is painful and worrisome that the explosion was caused allegedly by illegal miners,
who stored explosive devices in one of the houses in the Bodija area of the State.
Regrettably, the State and several families have suffered because of the irresponsibility and
criminal actions of the illegal miners.
“I express my condolences to the Oyo State government and people, as well as the immediate relatives of those killed in the Ibadan explosion, on behalf of the government and people of Lagos State.
“In this time of loss, I send my best wishes for peace, comfort, and loads of love to Governor Seyi Makinde and the entire people of Oyo State, especially the citizens of Bodija and the families of the victims.
“I want you to know that the good people of Lagos State are supporting you during this extremely trying time, my brother-governor.
“We ask God to comfort the families of the victims and the people of Oyo State as a whole, especially the residents of Bodija who were impacted by the tragedy.”
