On Wednesday night and Thursday morning, bandits attacked towns in Katsina State, killing at least three people and kidnapping numerous others.
Bandits reportedly broke into a mosque in Yargoje, Kankara Local Government Area, during Ishai prayer on Wednesday night and opened fire on unsuspecting Muslim worshippers, killing three.
“The perpetrators attacked our Muslim brothers during the Ishai prayer. Tragically, two of them were killed inside the mosque grounds, while a third died outside the mosque while attempting to flee the attack. Four people were injured and are being treated at a hospital in Kankara, according to a source.
According to the source, the mayhem worsened when the hoodlums snatched another male and two ladies during the attack.
“Unfortunately, the man’s refusal to go with the assailants cost him his life as he was mercilessly butchered for daring to defy the abductors,” the source went on to say.
In a separate incident about 2:30 a.m. on Thursday, marauding bandits targeted the home of Sani Maikifi, a vigilante member, in Ungwar Tudun Boka, Kankara Township.
Sani somehow escaped through his property, evading the hoodlums’ hands. However, his wife and children were not so fortunate. The hoodlums abducted them.
According to the source, the hoodlums who had been tailing Sani for some time attacked discreetly, penetrating the community within Kankara township without raising any alarms.
In a separate attack, at 11:30 p.m. on Thursday, armed persons stormed Dangani in Musawa local government, shooting intermittently.
According to one account, the crooks were tracking down a wealthy guy from the south who had come to the area to express his sympathies to a bereaved relative.
He was fortunate to have evaded their grasp. In response, the hoodlums kidnapped a large number of people from the region.
