Alhaji Abubakar Ahmadu, the village chief of Katakpa in the Toto Local
Government Area of Nasarawa State, along with two police officers and eleven
civilians, were all slain by gunmen who were thought to be terrorists.
The Daily Trust was informed by a local, Ibrahim Shuaibu, that the gunmen began
their attack at approximately two in the morning on Monday, February 26, 2024.
He said the gunmen set some houses on fire and that while the occupants were
trying to escape, they opened fire on them.
He added that the hoodlums earlier attacked the police outpost in the community
and killed two policemen before proceeding to attack the villagers.
The Chairman of Toto LGA, Alhaji Abdullahi Aliyu Tashas, confirmed the attack
and the killings to the publication.
“I am yet to get details of civilians killed in the attack as I am at a function
right now with the Deputy Governor in Umaisha,” he said.
Remember how on January 1, 2024, gunmen broke into Katakpa, killing eight people
and setting cars and homes on fire, including the village chief’s palace?
Following the January 1, attack, three among the soldiers reportedly deployed
to the community on January 8, 2024, alongside two vigilantes, were killed in
an ambush.
In the meantime, Dr. Emmanuel Agbadu Akabe, the Deputy Governor, paid the
attack victims a visit at the General Hospital Umaisha.
