Activist Detoun Onajobi has raised alarm over the escalating prices of food items in Nigeria.
Detoun, a vocal critic of the current administration, stated that the situation has become deeply troubling and is no longer a laughing matter.
“It’s no longer funny — there is fire on the mountain! Look at this: a bag of tatashe is now ₦55,000, and a bag of pepper is ₦47,000. Initially, I thought the price hike was due to the Muslim festival. I went to Mile 12 market more than three times during that period just to be sure. I didn’t want it to be said that only those who are suffering are complaining, while those of us who are supposedly ‘enjoying’ stay silent.
But truly, there is fire on our mountain.
President Tinubu! Minister of Agriculture! Minister of Welfare! All our politicians! Some people say this government is personal to them — their father, their uncle — so we should keep quiet, as if tatashe is being delivered to me directly from Bourdillon, or I’m getting federal allocation to buy pepper!”
