The Kano State Government has given school children a week-and-half holiday in the middle of the school term to celebrated the Eid-el‐Kabir.

The government announced that all primary and post-primary schools in the state will begin their Eid-el-Kabir holiday from Wednesday, June 4, 2025

According to a statement signed by the Director of Public Enlightenment at the Ministry of Education, Balarabe Abdullahi Kiru, the holiday will last until Sunday, June 15, 2025 for boarding students, while day students are expected to return on Monday, June 16, 2025.

“Parents and guardians of students in boarding schools are requested to pick up their children by the early hours of Wednesday, June 4, 2025,” the statement said.

The statement added that other parts of the 2024/2025 academic calendar, including official public holidays, remain unchanged.

The Commissioner for Education, Dr. Ali Haruna Makoda, thanked parents for their support and urged them to ensure their children return to school on time after the break.

“I want to use this opportunity to appreciate the usual support and cooperation given to the Ministry by the good people of the state and also wish the students and pupils a successful Sallah break,” he said.

Recall also that in March 2025, there was disquiet as governments of three northern states, Katsina, Kebbi and Bauchi, directed all schools, public and private, to proceed on holiday for the whole month of Ramadan. This happened in the middle of a school term while schools all over the nation were in session.
