Manchester City star Kevin De Bruyne has beaten Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah to the Premier League Player of the Season award.
The Belgian has been pivotal in City’s push for another Premier League triumph. De Bruyne has been inspirational for the Blues, while his form in Europe helped Pep Guardiola’s side to the Champions League semi-final before their dramatic extra-time defeat to Real Madrid.
The former Chelsea playmaker has emphasised his importance to the monster that is this City team. He has scored 15 goals in 29 Premier League appearances this season, contributing seven assists. He saw off the challenges of Joao Cancelo, Jarrod Bowen, Bukayo Saka, James Ward-Prowse, Heung-min Son, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Salah to win the award.
De Bruyne’s win makes it a double for the reigning champions after Phil Foden scooped the Young Player of the Season award. “To win this award for a second time is an achievement that I am really proud of,” the 30-year-old said.
