Following its unrelenting drive to rid the country’s Northwest and Northcentral regions of the threat of terrorism and kidnapping, the Air Component of Operation Whirl Punch has destroyed a terrorist gang in Kaduna State.
According to Air Vice Marshal Edwaed Gabkwet, Director of NAF Public Relations and Information, “The strike followed an intelligence report of the syndicate’s movement along the Kwiga-Kampamin Doka axis in Birnin Gwari Local Government Area (LGA) of Kaduna State.”
“The intelligence also revealed that the same syndicate was responsible for the ambush on troops at Kwanan Mutuwa on 27 January 2024 as well as several attacks and abductions of innocent civilians in Birnin Gwari.”
“Upon arriving at the suspected location, a deliberate and extensive scan showed a trail of terrorists seen riding in a convoy of approximately 15 motorcycles, each carrying at least two armed terrorists.
“As a result, the terrorists were pursued to a point where they converged before being engaged and neutralized in a precision strike.”
“The aftermath of the air strike indicated that numerous terrorists were killed as a result of the attack.
“The effectiveness of this specific strike has piqued the interest of the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, who has praised the component commander but emphasized that efforts must continue.
“While this is not cause for joy on our side, I must praise the crew’s professionalism in patiently trailing the crooks until an acceptable opportunity to strike presented itself. The CAS emphasized the importance of perseverance and hard work.
