The Lagos State Police Command has denied reports claiming that hundreds of Boko Haram suspects were apprehended in the state. The command’s spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, issued a statement on Friday refuting a publication circulated in some newspapers dated April 17, 2025.

According to Hundeyin, the state’s Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, ordered an immediate investigation into the report to determine its authenticity. He said the investigation revealed that no Boko Haram members were seen, sighted, or arrested anywhere in Lagos.

He added that leaders, operators, and drivers in the trailer park communities mentioned in the report confirmed to the police that no such individuals had been spotted or detained in those areas. In addition, surveillance detectives, personnel from the Lagos State Police Intelligence Department, and other police formations were deployed to the mentioned locations for further verification, but no evidence supporting the report was found.

“The report in its entirety is false, malicious, and ill-intended to cause fear and apprehension in the minds of the public,” Hundeyin said.

The police urged the public to disregard the report and continue with their daily activities without fear. Hundeyin also advised the media to avoid publishing unverified and misleading information that could disrupt the peace in the state.

He reassured residents of their safety and the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property. Residents were also encouraged to report suspicious activities to the nearest police station or contact the control room on 08063299264.
