The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Ekiti State Command has apprehended two suspects in the kidnapping and murder of a commercial sex worker in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital.
The NSCDC state commandant, Sunday Agboola, revealed this over the weekend, stating that the suspects, identified as Saviour and David, conspired to pick up the deceased Comfort James from a brothel on February 6, 2024.
According to him, the accused admitted to kidnapping and repeatedly raping the girl before her death.
Agboola, in a statement by the command’s spokesman, Tolulope Afolabi, claimed the suspects phoned a friend of the deceased and demanded a N1 million ransom.
“Because they were unable to raise the sum, they were forced to file a complaint with the command,” the statement went on to say.
“The State Command took swift action and, despite all difficulties, apprehended the suspects. Following an investigation into the case, the suspects revealed that they had kidnapped the girl under the false guise of employing her services as a commercial sex worker.
“The suspects took turns raping her repeatedly, then killed her and dumped her body in a nearby farmland. They also took the deceased’s cell phone and continued to demand ransom from the victim’s friends and family.
“The investigation is still ongoing, as said by the commandant, and further facts will be disclosed as they are unravelled.”
The commandant encouraged the people to remain calm and carry out their lawful obligations while placing their trust in the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and all other security agencies in the state in this struggle to protect lives and property.
