Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has pledged to ensure justice is served for the 13 Ebonyi indigenes who were brutally murdered in Anambra State.
According to an earlier report by PREMIUM TIMES, unidentified gunmen stormed Ogboji community in Orumba South Local Government Area of Anambra State on Monday evening and opened fire, killing about 13 people.
The victims, all from Ebonyi State, were reportedly holding their monthly meeting in the area when the attack occurred.
This senseless act of violence against innocent, law-abiding citizens is both barbaric and a direct attack on peace, unity, and the sanctity of human life.
It is beyond comprehension that a group of Ebonyi indigenes, peacefully gathered for a meeting, would be gunned down at close range. Such a horrific act is utterly unacceptable, and I strongly condemn it in its entirety,” Governor Nwifuru stated.
He added that he has reached out to Anambra State Governor, Charles Soludo, urging him to initiate a swift, thorough, and transparent investigation into the tragic incident.
confidence that the Anambra State Government, alongside relevant security agencies, will act swiftly to apprehend those responsible for the attack. He warned that any failure or compromise in handling the case could strain the cordial relationship between Ebonyi and Anambra States.
He appealed to the people of Ebonyi—especially the affected families and communities—to remain calm and avoid any form of retaliation or actions that could further heighten tensions, while awaiting the outcome of the ongoing investigation.
“This kind of barbarism has no place in a modern society. Every resource at the state’s disposal will be deployed to unmask and bring the perpetrators of this heinous act to justice,” he assured.
Governor Nwifuru reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to the safety and protection of all Ebonyi citizens, both within the state and in the diaspora. He vowed that all those involved in the killings—regardless of their identity—would be brought to justice.
