NYSC DG Charges Corp Members To Be Diligent In Performing Their Task

The Director General, National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Maj.-Gen. Shuaibu Ibrahim has called on Corp members to be diligent in the performance of their duties.

Ibrahim made this known at the Terminal Parade/Closing Ceremony of the 2022 Batch A Orientation Course in Abuja.

He also charged the Corp members to integrate into their host communities through learning of language and culture.

He added that there was need for them not to be overdependence on white collar jobs there were not there but be creative in getting things done for themselves

” I wish to stress the need for you to be diligent in the performance of your duties. I also urge you to integrate into your host communities through learning of their languages and cultures.

” Furthermore, you should devote time to identify the felt needs of the communities, and initiate personal and group community development service projects that will uplift their living standards.

“Like I have said, white collar jobs are no longer easy to come by, hence the need to embrace the self-employment option.

” Accordingly, the NYSC Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme has been carefully designed to equip you for self-employment and wealth creation.

” Of course, the level of enthusiasm you demonstrated during the vocational and entrepreneurial training conducted in the Camp is commendable. You are further encouraged to build on the skills required by availing yourselves of opportunities for post-camp training,” he said.

The director general added that the quality of the programme of SAED would further be enhanced through the provision of adequate training materials and engagement of more specialist trainers.

He said this would help pull millions of Nigerians out of poverty thereby stemming the side of youth restiveness and tendency for criminality.

He commended the House of Representatives and, by extension, the entire National Assembly for the progress made so far on the legislative processes on the bill for the establishment of the Trust Fund.

” This bill has not only passed through the second reading, but also subjected to public hearing.

” In the same vein, I thank the numerous stakeholders, Including the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, various government agencies, non-Governmental organisations, the academia, civil society organisations as well as women,
youth and students groups.

” I wish to passionately appeal to the appropriate authorities to facilitate the success of the remaining processes that will bring the trust fund to fruition,” he added.

He, therefore, assured corps members, of adequate welfare and security saying these were topmost on the schemes priority list.

He said that the scheme had also sustained it’s liaison with security agencies and other stakeholders with the view of not only ensuring members safety, but also making the essential provisions that would enable them have a fulfilling service year.

He, however called on the Corp members to play their part by being security conscious at all times.

Ibrahim warned the corp members against all forms social vices such as drug abuse and trafficking capable of destroying them.
