The Lagos State Police Command has arrested two principal suspects responsible for the gruesome m8rder of a young woman in the Gangare area of Mile 12.

The deceased, from Nasarawa State, was k!lled and her body set ablaze on May 24, 2025.

Spokesperson of the command, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, who disclosed this in a statement on Sunday, May 25, said the deceased’s ex-boyfriend conspired with the suspects to k!ll her after failed attempt to compel her back into the love relationship.

The PPRO dismissed speculations and other misinformation circulating about the cause of the m8rder.

“The Lagos State Police Command has arrested two principal suspects who participated in the dastardly act wherein a young lady who hailed from Nasarawa State (name withheld) was tragically m8rdered in cold blood and her body set ablaze on May 24, 2025, in the slum “GANGARE“ by the canal behind Mile 12 Market area of Lagos State,” the statement read.

“Contrary to speculations circulating and other misinformation about the cause of the murder of the deceased, it was found out that the deceased was residing in the slum with her northern relatives, and her exact profession remains unidentified at this time.

“Facts from preliminary investigation clearly revealed that she is from Nasarawa State and not a Yoruba Woman. The protracted problem between her and her boyfriend now at large, who wanted at all cost to compelled her back into the love relationship after break up resulted in the boyfriend conspiring with other suspects, two of whom are in police custody to round her up, attack her, kill her in cold blood and set her body ablaze.

“The k!lling of the young lady in cold blood is clearly a premeditated crime of conspiracy and cold blooded m8rder, which should be condemned by all. There was no element of blasphemy by the victim before her gruesome m8rder.

“Lagos State Police Command has taken swift actions by promptly arresting two principal suspects involved in the dastardly act, while investigation is being intensified to arrest the boyfriend and the other suspects still at large.

“Two (2) suspects directly connected to the incident are currently in custody at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), where they are assisting the Police detectives and investigators in efforts to arrest other perpetrators involved in the m8rder of the young lady.

“The Command hereby wishes to assure the public that normalcy has been fully restored in the affected slum and other areas in Mile 12 area.

“There was no tension or threat of reprisal attack between any ethnic group against the other in Ketu Mile 12 or any other part of Lagos State. Lagosians are encouraged not to panic. They are urged to go about their lawful activities peacefully without apprehension.

“While awaiting the outcome of the investigation which will certainly be made public, people are implored to exercise restraint and refrain from spreading unverified information that may cause unnecessary fear.

“The Lagos State Police Command remains committed to ensuring the safety and security of all residents and will continue to provide timely updates as the investigation progresses.”
