The President of the Rotary Club of Lagos, Mrs. Gladys Modupe Sasore, has said that the club would work towards restoring the dying reading culture among Nigerian youths.
Sasore, who spoke at the club’s second annual president’s dinner in Lagos State, lamented that even though reading culture was fast departing from the youths and even ignored by the society for too long, the club would attempt to execute projects that impact positively on basic education and literacy among others.

“During my induction as president, I said we would attempt to execute projects that have to do with basic education and literacy, economic and community development, disease prevention and treatment and so on,” Sasore stated.

She reaffirmed that the club known for it charity works, was already gearing up for this year’s projects of which promoting reading culture among the youths in the society ranks high among others.

Guest speaker at the event, Richie Dayo Johnson, urged the club to, as a matter of urgency, redesign its communication so that youths would become more interested in what the club does, and what it stands for.
“One of your goals should be getting younger ones to be part of your organisation and if you want them to be part of it, you need to introduce things that interest them … We need to tell our younger people the things they can do and not what they cannot do.”
