Samsung has unveiled its latest robot vacuum which is slimmer, more powerful and smarter than its predecessors.
Announced ahead of the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas – where it will be awarded a 2017 CES Innovation Award – the Powerbot VR7000 has been redesigned to work in harder to reach places, such as at the edges of rooms and under furniture, and its mapping technology can hunt down dirt on surfaces. It uses Visionary Mapping Plus and FullView Sensor 2.0 features to map and remember contours of a room, and can guide itself around obstacles or small items measuring less than 10mm or 0.4 of an inch.
The Intelligent Power Control feature automatically adjusts the level of suction power depending on the type of floor, and the Powerbot VR7000 can be controlled remotely by an app. From a smartphone, homeowners can start or stop the machine, schedule cleaning times, and check the cleaning history. It also works with Amazon Echo meaning it can be controlled using voice commands.
The Powerbot VR7000 generates up to 20 watts of suction power and is 28 per cent slimmer than Powerbot VR9000 series. Its Edge Clean Master feature means the unit can go within half an inch (15mm) of a wall. This is because the unit’s brush is placed closer to the front. Additionally, the Auto Shutter feature automatically drops down a barrier to help the unit sweep up more dust collected closer to the edges.
Elsewhere, the VR7000 comes with a Self-Cleaning Brush System to reduce the amount of dust and hair that gets trapped in the bristles by collecting debris in the centre of the brush. “The Powerbot VR7000 keeps up with the floor care needs of today’s busy families,” said Byung-Sam Seo, president of home appliances at Samsung Electronics. “Just set it and watch it go to work. The Powerbot VR7000’s navigational features and sensors combined with slim design and increased suction power help make sure the job gets done.”
The release date and price for the VR7000 have not yet been announced.
