Six drivers have been charged by the police in an Ekiti State Chief Magistrate Court in the
Ado Ekiti District for attacking the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital, assaulting
staff members, and damaging hospital property.
Remember how some men had assaulted the hospital on Monday, January 15, after a patient died there and took the body away with force?
Michael Ogunleye (45), Festus Wele (48), Adebayo Ojo (54), Akintola Adebayo (53), Babalola Temitope (30), and Egunjobi Babatunde (50) are the defendants arraigned before the court.
The court was informed by police prosecutor ASP Johnson Okunade that there was probable reason to remand the six suspects at the Ado-Ekiti detention center.
“The defendants were suspected of committing the crimes of conspiracy, willful destruction and vandalism of government property, as well as assault and threats of violence against medical staff at the EKSUTH in Ado Ekiti.
“The Miscellaneous Offence Act LFN 2004, Section 364(c), and Section 185 of the Criminal Laws of Ekiti State 2021” punish the offenses.
The Director of Public Prosecutions has been notified of the case file and will provide legal
advice, stated Okunade, who urged the court to remand the six offenders.
The defendants were placed under the custody of the Ado Ekiti detention center by Chief Magistrate Mr. A. O. Adeosun, who also postponed the case till February 19 for further consideration.
