The Defence Headquarters has announced that troops of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) have apprehended a Chinese national claiming to be a miner, along with several terrorist logistics suppliers and collaborators, during operations in Borno and Yobe States.

Major General Markus Kangye, Director of Defence Media Operations, disclosed this on Friday, June 13, in Abuja while briefing journalists on the activities of the Nigerian Armed Forces across operational theatres.

According to Kangye, the Chinese national was arrested in coordinated operations conducted in Kukawa and Ngala Local Government Areas of Borno State. He said investigations are currently underway to determine the suspect’s motives and any potential involvement in illegal activities.

“The Chinese national has been detained and he is undergoing interrogation,” Kangye said. “When the interrogation is completed, we will be able to furnish the public with the details of why he was there in the first place, how he was arrested, whether he was the only one there, or he had accomplices. All this will be unfolded after thorough investigation has been carried out.”

Kangye also revealed that, between June 6 and 11, several Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists, including men, women, and children, surrendered to troops due to intensified military pressure.

He stated that the armed forces have increased operational tempo across all theatres to combat the various security threats confronting the country.

Reaffirming the military’s commitment to national security, Kangye said the armed forces remain resolute in protecting lives and property, upholding the rule of law, and ensuring a secure environment for all citizens.

“We remain dedicated to transparency and will keep the public informed of our ongoing efforts to ensure the stability and security of our great nation,” he added.
