Nine traders are said to have been slain by bandits on Katsina State’s Jibia/Batsari Road.

By 6 p.m. on Sunday, February 11, 2024, it was reported that the traders were on their way back to their village from a local market in Jibia when they encountered the shooters.

News men claims that two cars that the gunmen also set on fire were used to transport the traders.

“On Sunday, the traders departed from the market promptly after their trade, only to encounter the gunmen on the Jibia/Batsari Road between 5 and 6 p.m.,” a local informed the publication on Monday.

According to the resident, the gunmen immediately killed one of the drivers and the traders by firing shots into the two trucks carrying the traders.

Afterwards, supporters left the victims’ bodies at Jibia General Hospital, where their family collected them on Monday morning, according to some locals who spoke with the publication.

As of Monday afternoon, it was unknown how many traders had been injured in the collision and how many had been taken hostage.

Both ASP Abubakar Aliyu, the spokesman for the Katsina State Police Command, and Nasiru Muazu, the state commissioner for internal security and home affairs, had not yet responded to the incident.
