Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has leapt to the defence of the free spending Chinese Super League, saying managers need to worry about their own teams rather than a country thousands of miles away.
Arsenal and Chelsea bosses Arsene Wenger and Antonio Conte have been particularly vocal about the threat possessed by Asia.
But Mourinho says he is not phased if one of his players elected to make the move to football’s newest financial power.
“I don’t like to be critical with players that are going to China. It is their life, it is their organisation of life, it is their organisation of career,” he said.
“The money is huge, the experience can also be very interesting. I know some of my colleagues, they think they are more important than they are, they are critical with the lives of other people.
“I am not this kind of guy. I think everyone is responsible for his own life. That is why I am not critical with anyone.
Reports in recent weeks have suggested captain Wayne Rooney could be a possible target for the CSL, and Mourinho says he has not held that conversation with the England international.
“But in Wayne’s case, I have no idea. He never mentioned anything to me. You will have to ask him,” he added.
“The future belongs to him and what he wants from his career, the way he wants to end it and enjoy this last part of his career belongs to him.”
